Beleniuk's gold, arrests in the National Corps: Top-5 events of the week

1. Zhan Beleniuk on Wednesday, August 4, won the first gold medal for Ukraine at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. A total of 19 medals (1 gold, 6 silver and 12 bronze medals) are in the collection of the Ukrainian team by the last day of the Olympiad.

2. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the residents of the self-proclaimed republics in the territory of Donbass to self-determine. “If you think that we are Russians, it’s a big mistake to stay in Donbass… you need to leave for Russia,” he said in an interview published on the Dom TV channel's website on Thursday, August 5.

3. In France on August 7, opponents of sanitary passes and compulsory vaccinations came out to protest for the fourth Saturday in a row. Demonstrations have been announced in over 150 French cities.

4. On August 4, the head of the President's Office Andriy Yermak and Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba arrived in the United States to prepare for the upcoming visit of the President of Ukraine, which is scheduled for August 30.

5. On Friday night, August 6, the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kiev arrested seven representatives of the National Corps political party for 60 days without the right to post bail.
