Trump's Nuclear Revolution Breaks the 'Renewables' Trend

According to T. Waller, and D. Ellsworth

President Trump’s four nuclear energy executive orders, issued May 23, 2025, chart a bold path toward an energy future where electricity is more reliable and cost-effective.

By implementing advanced nuclear technologies, simplifying regulations, and strengthening the domestic nuclear industry, these orders aim to deliver 400 gigawatts of clean, reliable energy by 2050 — quadruple the current capacity.

America’s existing nuclear fleet — light water and pressurized water reactors — boast the best safety record of any industry in America. Advanced nuclear technologies like small modular reactors, microreactors, and Generation IV systems further enhance safety by being able to operate reliably even without human intervention.

More importantly, the executive orders strengthen national security by designating nuclear AI data centers and military bases as critical infrastructure. By deploying advanced reactors at Department of Energy and Department of Defense facilities by 2028 and securing twenty new nuclear export agreements, the United States could become a global leader. But anti-nuclear advocates, who have spent decades peddling fears, will fight back, trying to delay export deals and domestic progress.

Trump’s nuclear revolution is more than a policy shift; it’s a call to action. America stands at a crossroads: embrace advanced nuclear power for affordable, abundant energy or succumb to bureaucratic inertia and misinformation. Trump has chosen nuclear.
