Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington on Wednesday, where he met with US President Joe Biden at the White House and then addressed Congress. "Ukraine is holding out and will never give up," Zelensky declared, reminding Congressmen of Winston Churchill.
This is the first foreign visit of V. Zelensky after the outbreak of hostilities. The visit was not announced, according to media reports, the President of Ukraine arrived by train to Poland, and then on a US Air Force plane to Washington.
At the beginning of the official program of Zelensky's visit, President Biden and his wife met at the White House. These shots were shown live on American television.
Putin is trying to use winter as a weapon, Biden said, referring to Russian shelling of Ukraine's residential areas and energy infrastructure, and assured Zelensky that the Americans, along with European allies, would continue to support Ukraine.
Biden assured Zelensky that both U.S. parties in Congress support the Ukrainians and, along with allies in Europe, Japan and elsewhere, will continue to provide Ukraine with much-needed humanitarian and military assistance, including the recently announced delivery of advanced Patriot air defense missile systems.
At a press conference after the meeting, Volodymyr Zelensky said, in particular, that President Biden had confirmed the news about another package of military assistance to Ukraine, which would include powerful air defense systems.
“I am returning home with good news, with a nearly $2 billion military aid package, and the main element of this package is Patriot systems, which will enhance our air defense capabilities,” the President of Ukraine said.
