The text of the following statement is issued by the Governments of the United States of America and Ukraine.

Today in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, thanks to the gracious hospitality of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the United States and Ukraine took important steps toward restoring lasting peace in Ukraine.

The two countries commended the courage of the Ukrainian people in defending their country and agreed that the time has come to begin the process toward achieving lasting peace.

The Ukrainian delegation reiterated the deep gratitude of the Ukrainian people to President Trump, the U.S. Congress, and the people of the United States for creating the opportunity to make meaningful progress toward peace.

Ukraine expressed its readiness to accept the U.S. proposal for an immediate temporary 30-day ceasefire, extendable by mutual agreement of the parties, which would be valid if accepted and simultaneously implemented by the Russian Federation. The United States will convey to Russia that reciprocity on the part of the Russians is the key to achieving peace.

The United States will immediately lift the pause in intelligence sharing and resume security assistance to Ukraine.

The delegations also discussed the importance of humanitarian assistance efforts as part of the peace process, especially during the aforementioned ceasefire, including the exchange of prisoners of war, the release of detained civilians, and the return of forcibly displaced Ukrainian children.

Both delegations agreed to appoint their negotiating teams and immediately begin negotiations to establish a lasting peace that will ensure the long-term security of Ukraine. The United States committed to discussing these specific proposals with Russian representatives. The Ukrainian delegation reaffirmed that European partners should be involved in the peace process.

Finally, the presidents of both countries agreed to conclude as soon as possible a comprehensive agreement on the development of Ukraine's critical mineral resources to expand the Ukrainian economy and ensure Ukraine's long-term prosperity and security.
