According to E.M. Lederer

Russia vetoed in the UN Security Council a draft resolution condemning the referendums in the self-proclaimed republics of Donbass, as well as in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions as illegal.

The initiative was sponsored by the United States and Albania. The document proposed to condemn the organization of "so-called illegal referendums" and emphasize that they have no legal force, as well as to call on the Russian Federation to withdraw troops from the territory of Ukraine. The resolution would also demand an immediate end to Russia's "full-scale illegal invasion of Ukraine" and the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all its armed forces from Ukraine.

Apart from Russia, no one voted against the document. Ten countries supported the project, these are the USA, Great Britain, France, Albania, Ghana, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico, Norway, UAE. Four - China, India, Brazil, Gabon - abstained.

US Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said ahead of the vote that if Russia vetoed the resolution, the United States and Albania, which sponsored the resolution, would take it to the 193-member General Assembly, where there is no veto, “and show that the world is still on the side of sovereignty and protection of territorial integrity”.

It will most likely happen next week.
