The Saudi-led coalition fighting in Yemen launched a military operation on Saturday to stop attacks on its oil facilities and "protect global energy sources," Saudi state media reported.
The coalition said it carried out airstrikes on the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital Sana'a and the Red Sea port city of Hodeidah.
It was stated that it was aimed at "protecting global energy sources and securing supply chains" and that the operation would continue until the set goal was achieved. The coalition said the operation was in its early stages and the Iranian-linked Houthis must bear the consequences of their "hostile behaviour."
Al Masirah, a Houthi-linked TV station, said coalition warplanes had targeted the city of Hodeidah, while local residents said the raids were carried out near the port of Hodeidah. In addition, it was reported that the coalition attacked the port of Salif, the electric power corporation and oil facilities in Hodeida.
Residents of Sanaa reported that the office building of the Safer oil company in the south of the city was bombed.
The coalition said it would spare civilian targets and avoid collateral damage to oil facilities.
