“A stunning military success” is how Donald Trump described the US military operation carried out early Sunday morning in the Middle East. In an address from the White House, he announced the bombing of three nuclear facilities in Iran - in Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan. “Iran’s key uranium enrichment facilities have been completely and irreversibly destroyed,” the US president stressed, adding: “Either peace will come, or Iran will face tragedy.”

The further development of the situation and the risk of escalation now depend on Tehran’s decisions. Iran has two options. The first is to strike American bases in the region with limited effect, so that the regime can declare its response, demonstrating its ability to defend the country. The second is to attack US personnel and facilities, which could provoke an escalation of mutual strikes and, as a result, a regional war.

The best option for Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is to immediately engage in direct talks with Trump to end the conflict. At the very least, this would require Iran to abandon domestic uranium enrichment forever—let alone the development of nuclear weapons.

Iran’s nuclear program is in ruins and unlikely to be revived; if it tries, it will face another blow. In fact, Iran has spent billions of dollars and decades just to get sanctions and face a devastating war with the world’s most powerful country.

Trump’s decision to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities is a clear signal that U.S. leadership still matters. This attack is part of a broader transformation of the global energy landscape, in which the United States, along with its allies, plays a key role. Strong domestic energy production and growing exports contribute to overall energy security.

The blow goes beyond simply countering the nuclear threat. It symbolizes a new strategic era in which the United States, relying on a more stable Persian Gulf, is no longer hostage to the energy vulnerabilities of the past. From the Abraham Accords to the attack on Iran, the United States is no longer reacting, but shaping the future.
